MARTIN THOMPSON, LCSW “We all struggle from time to time. Everyone needs help at some point. I know what it's like to need a hand and how important it is to find it from a non-judgmental source. One of the key elements in the way I work with you is to listen to your story. Each of us is unique, each story is different so I take great care to listen and understand how you see things and what is important to you. My goal is ”to walk in your shoes”. .I have always had a passion for mental health, working in the UK and US for over 30 years. I am a Qigong teacher which in combination with “talk”; therapy I utilize to help you to tap into your own inner silence - an ability that we all have within us. Through EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and mindfulness practices including meditation and Qigong. Developing a healthy lifestyle I can also help you learn to approach daily living from a more balanced place. These practices allow one to better manage the stressors of daily living, relationship problems and major life changes.”

NANCY THURSTON, MSW, LCSW Nancy Thurston is a licensed clinical social worker who has a private practice offering individual, marital and family therapy. Her areas of expertise include depression, bipolar disorder, sexual abuse and trauma, grief, stress management and eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. She is also a breast cancer survivor and feels confident speaking with people and families who are dealing with cancer. Nancy believes that therapy is a journey of self discovery. During that passage, one can learn about their strengths and limitations, how to empower oneself, improved methods of communicating and tools to manage their symptoms while in the comfort of a supportive, validating listening environment. Nancy believes that a metaphor for progress in therapy is a turtle: in order to get anywhere you've got to stick your neck out.

ELLEN B. FLAUM, MSW, LCSW, DCSW Ellen Flaum brings over 25 years of specialized counseling experience – working with individuals and couples in her role as Psychotherapist and Administrator for the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Department’s Employee Assistance Program. She has been with the EAP since its inception in 1997. Since then in her private practice she has worked with hundreds of firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, Chiefs, Administration, dispatchers and civilians as well as their families, where she has helped them successfully work through painful experiences and difficult challenges. As a private practitioner she sees employees of PBCFR where she specializes in depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, grief and loss issues, abandonment issues, trauma from childhood, drug addiction, alcoholism, families of alcoholics and drug addicts, infidelity, infertility and codependency. She also sees many painful reactions to “bad calls”. Many of these issues may cause tension and struggles between couples in relationships that can benefit and heal from improved communications. Marriage and couples counseling is a major part of her practice. Working with this population for so long she is aware of all the struggles that might exist in your marriage because of the work that you do. Ellen’s approach to counseling is eclectic using many therapeutic approaches; psychodynamic, gestalt, and emotionally focused therapy which is used for marriage counseling. She is supportive, patient, compassionate, nurturing and confident that she can help care for her client’s wounds without overwhelming them or making their struggles worse and help them to accomplish what they want and need to live a happier and healthier life.
